December Project

So I think I’m going to take the advice to hold off on the 2nd draft for a few weeks, probably for the month.

However I want to keep writing if I can manage it so I’m going to focus on a screenplay next. I have quite a few projects with a lot of notes on each that just need to be worked on.

Any that have been started aren’t really past the first 10-15 pages.

The hard part is deciding which one to focus on. I have it narrowed down to five possible ones out of like thirty ideas, and amazingly only one of the five could fit the horror genre. I think. Most of my films tend to veer in that direction no matter where they start.

3 Dramas, 1 Comic type, 1 Western horror

Considering I might send this to Nicholl if it turns out good enough, I might look hard at the dramas, I know other genres win also but dramas seem to have the most luck.

Yay for 2nd year in a row!

Yay, made it a day early :D

Now I need to decide on whether I want to dive right into the second draft. Which I assume will feel, as it always does, a lot like this.

Or I’m thinking of taking a month away from the book and pretend Dec is actually April and work on a screenplay instead. Screnzyish

Something to figure out tomorrow. For now I’m just gonna feel decent that I got this book’s first draft done.

Had to stretch some scenes here and there to make the 50k. Going to worry about fixing them and adding the rest I missed in the 2nd draft.

For now it’s done. :)

Home Stretch, NaNo update of sorts.

So I have 4548 words to go till 50k. The first draft won’t exceed that by much, at least I dont think it will, but there will be a lot of smaller things added throughout in the second draft so I’m cool with it being around 50k for now. Goal is still 60-70k final draft eventually.

The question is, should I push it and finish the book today. Or let myself relax and do it over the next two to three days.

It would be amazing to finish even a couple days early.

Last year I ended up barely winning because I had to push the last 15k words into the last day or two. Thankfully not this time. At least I know I can do that when needed though.

Loving how the book is turning out. So much that I had planned over the years just falling into place and fitting the current version of the story so perfectly.

Just hope others like it as well.

NaNo….bleh

Well I have good news and bad news.

Last night I finished my book….

At 42,865 words…A little over 7k words short of NaNo goal and 17k short of what I had hoped for the first draft.

As I said before I have some scenes I skipped so I wouldn’t slow down during the month, I’m just not sure if I can do them in time. I mean that is why I skipped them in the first place.

This just really sucks. I’ve nailed the daily goal almost every day so far. Now with a few days left I’m feeling kinda screwed.

Still going to try just not sure this is going to happen.

The book itself will get done, just maybe not by the end of this month like I hoped.

Bleh…

NaNo update #8

Haven’t done one of these in a little while.

Currently sitting at 39,325 words.

I’ve stayed ahead and mostly on schedule so far. Had been hoping for 40k tonight to be a full day ahead again but didn’t happen.

Though I’m running into a problem that seems to be common for me. Whenever I try writing something long it ends up coming up way shorter than I hoped. Which is part of why I love doing short stories.

My first full screenplay was meant to be at least 90-100 pages and came in at 72 or so.

Now this book is almost at it’s end. Considering how close I am it should come out to about 42k -43k words when I finish. I was looking for closer to 60k - 70k when I started for the first draft.

I’m not that worried though because of how I was writing, keeping myself moving and not getting hung up, I ended up skipping a lot of stuff that I figured I’d fill in later. I thought that I’d still have over 50k though with what I was aiming for the overall.

So I may have to go back and fill in those chapters to make the goal, which will be awkward but it’s not like I’m editing, just putting scenes in that I wanted to take more time with next month.

Hoping it works out, would hate to do this good so far and fail at the end because of this. We shall see.

NaNo update #7

Currently at 26,827 words.

Still on schedule, yay

Been having some fun with the last chapter or so.

It’s got some jokes in it for gamers.

I think I’m doing better on the info dump issue. I can spread stuff out a bit more now.

Still no idea how long this book will end up, at least the 50k for NaNo but it feels like it might go 80k total. Hoping for 60k-70k tops really.

These books are supposed to be average size. At least thats the hope, we’ll see if the story allows it.

Have a kinda related question, hope it’s no too off topic. Do you play D&D/roleplay? :) Also, glad you are making your character more than just a trans* women, good to show that labels aren’t all their is to people. ^ ^

Unfortunately I never have. I knew some people that were into the Vampire the Masquerade type stuff and maybe two people back in high school that were into D&D. I mostly got my fix from reading books and watching movies.

The Bard of Talford

That is the current working title of my NaNo book. Well it’s listed on NaNo with another working title but I knew the other one wasn’t going to stick.

I made a post the other day about it and then talked a bit more about it on my personal blog so I want to combine and edit all the info into one post of what I have out there so far.
